Each spring, the Town Board conducts a road tour to assess the structural condition of local roads and develop a maintenance and repair plan.
Projects are then put out for bid and reviewed at a Town Board meeting, where contracts are awarded. Road construction typically takes place during the summer and fall.
Road construction is a Town expense, funded by revenues generated through the Town. The budget is reviewed and approved at the annual budget meeting, typically held in October.
Current Road Projects Include:
Repaving Project: Edmund Road from Algoma (CTH I) south to the end.
The existing pavement will be pulverized and regraded, then overlaid with 3 inches of new asphalt.
Chip Sealing: The following roads will be chip sealed along their entire lengths: Circle Ridge Road, Conard Road, Edwin Lane, Strebel Road, North Hemlock south of Van Lanen, and in the Bay Heights Subdivision—Sparrow, Heron, Loon, Egret, and Osprey Lane.
Chip sealing involves applying a layer of new asphalt over the existing surface, followed by a coating of tar and small aggregate (chip stone). This process creates a smoother surface and extends the life of the road. While it’s not as thorough as full repaving, chip sealing is a cost-effective way to maintain roads.
