Recycling and Garbage

Recycling and garbage collection in the Town of Scott is contracted through GFL.

To report a broken garbage or recycling can, please email the Deputy Clerk at [email protected] with your name, address, and what can (recycling or garbage) needs to be replaced.

Garbage & Recycling Collection is every Friday. Containers should be out by 6 AM on day of collection.

For New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day: Residential Solid Waste and Recyclable collections shall be delayed until Saturday when the normally scheduled collection day falls on the holiday, or the holiday is in the same week preceding the normally scheduled collection day.

Some reminders from GFL current policies:

  • Place your trash can and recycling bin at the curb with the wheels facing your house and the lid opening into the street.
  • Keep your garbage cans four feet apart and at least four feet or more from any obstacles such as mailboxes, cars, lamp posts, or power lines.
  • Keep your container at the curb until the end of the day if it hasn’t been collected. Sometimes the timing of our arrival changes, and we don’t want to miss you if we come later than expected.
  • It’s generally best to put your container out the night before your collection day. That way even if we’re early, you won’t miss your pick-up.

Some Town reminders:

  • Carts must be removed from Town ROW within 24 hours of garbage or recycling pickup.
  • All garbage should be properly bagged.
  • GFL collects with two separate trucks, one for garbage and another for recyclables.
  • Recyclables: please use the blue-lidded recycling cart to its fullest potential.
  • Do not recycle plastic grocery bags or place recyclables in plastic bags. Doing so jams the recycling machines and greatly reduces the efficiency of the recycling process.
